Madness ensued Thursday morning when the news broke that former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi has officially become the new manager of not the New York Mets, who fired Mickey Callaway on October 3rd, but their NL East division rival Philadelphia Phillies.

The news was first reported by John Salisbury, Phillies insider for NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Girardi managed the Yankees for 10 seasons, leading them to their last World Series title in 2009, and he won National League Manager of the Year with the Florida Marlins in 2006.

Predictably, Twitter erupted with angry Mets fans voicing their grievances with the team as soon as the news broke.
