Yankees Place Chapman On DL, Call Up Adams

August 22, 2018 - 5:52 pm

The injury bug has hit the Yankees again as closer Aroldis Chapman has landed on the 10-day disabled list due to left knee tendinitis.

Chapman left Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Marlins in the 12th inning after feeling pain in the knee. Chapman said he wants to use these days to 'recuperate.' He departed after throwing just six pitches. Chapman has dealt with knee problems for much of the season.

The Yankees should be fine for the time being without Chapman, considering they have Zach Britton, David Robertson, and Dellin Betances in the bullpen. All three have spent time in their careers as a closer.

The Yankees recalled right-hander Chance Adams to replace Chapman. They also acquired catcher Chris Rabago off waivers from the Rockies. Rabago was optioned to double-A Trenton.
