Report: USC Blocking Kingsbury From Interviewing With Jets

January 05, 2019 - 3:04 pm

According to ESPN, USC is not giving permission to both the Jets and Cardinals to interview Trojans offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

Apparently the NFL is enforcing an old rule that team executives have to receive permission from college athletic directors to interview college coaches. Not doing so would be considered 'conduct detrimental' and could cost the team draft picks.

USC's refusal is preventing the Jets from meeting with one of their head coaching candidates. They will move on to interview other candidates for now as they wait to see if USC changes their mind.

Kingsbury was just hired in December to take over as offensive coordinator after getting fired by Texas Tech where he was the head coach, but finished just 5-7 in a disappointing season.

The Jets have already interviewed Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, former Dolphins head coach Adam Gase, and interviewed former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy Saturday.
