Joining Mike’s On Wednesday was New York Giant’s first round pick (second overall) Saquon Barkley. As he told Francesa, he’s had no trouble picking up the Giants’ system so far.

“It’s a lot of the things I learned in college, so it is coming pretty easy for me,” Barkely said, adding that he’s adapted to the playbook “really well.”

Recognizing that a lot of people want to talk to him and meet him, Barkley hasn’t let any distractions creep in.

“I’ve just been coming to the facility, try to be one of the first ones in, one of the last ones out, have that method, and try to continue to work every single day and learn from the older guys,” Barkley said.

In response to one of the glaring weaknesses that the Giants have had in recent years – running backs picking up the blitz – Barkley explained that his coaches at Penn State started challenging him in his sophomore year to study film so he can see how to identify blitz packages a lot quicker.

“Even when I’m not quite sure, I got a veteran quarterback back there with me with Eli Manning, and he seems to know every blitz, and seems to know when everyone’s coming,” Barkley said, eluding to his comfort level protecting him.

Barkley also had a lot of complimentary things to say about many of his other new teammates, and talked extensively about how explosive this team could be.
