Barkley Irritated By Criticisms Of Manning, Defends Giants’ QB

Giants running back Saquon Barkley defended oft-criticized quarterback Eli Manning in a recent interview with Bleacher Report.

Manning finished the 2018 season with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the 5-11 Giants. He also recorded a career-high with a 66 completion percentage. Those statistics didn’t shield the 38-year-old quarterback from analysts’ opinions that he should be replaced.

Barkley remains adamant that Manning isn’t the reason for the Big Blue’s downfall. New York’s offensive line struggled throughout 2018. Manning was sacked a career-high 47 times.

“Yeah, it bothers me. I’m not going to lie because it’s not his fault,” Barkley told Bleacher Report. “He’s not the reason why. We love to put the blame on one person, but it takes 11 men, a team and an organization all together to win.”

The Giants could look to a long-term successor at the quarterback position through the NFL Draft in Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins. New York owns the sixth and 17th selections in this year’s draft. Alternatively, they could trade for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen.
