Manny Machado

Yankees Odds-On Favorites To Sign Manny Machado

The Yankees' supposed interest in signing Manny Machado has taken quite a few twists and turns this offseason.

New York met with Machado in December, but reports then emerged in January that their discussions with the highly-valued free agent had gone dead. It has been an on-again, off-again courtship that continues as February is in full swing and Machado remains unsigned.

Now, the Yankees may be back in pole position to sign the 26-year-old star. The Bronx Bombers are the odds-on favorites to sign Machado, according to betting site BetOnline.

The White Sox have seemed like the favorites to sign Machado for a while, but that may no longer be the case. The San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies round out the list. Those are the four teams that the in-demand free agent has reportedly met with.

Machado would provide help to a Yankees’ infield that will be without Didi Gregorius until at least June. Tommy John surgery is notoriously tough to come back from, and Gregorius recently said that there is still no timetable for his return.

Machado can play at both third base and shortstop. His bat would somehow make Aaron Boone's lineup more imposing than it already is.

The Hialeah, Florida native hit .297 with 37 home runs and 107 RBIs last season for the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers. Over his seven-year career, he has a .282 batting average, with 175 homers and 513 RBIs.
