Didi Gregorius did not receive a qualifying offer attached to his free agency from the Yankees and now the popular shortstop is receiving interest from other teams.

Listen to your team news NOW.

While Gregorius will likely have multiple teams check-in, according to WFAN’s Jon Heyman, the Cincinnati Reds have already shown interest. Didi signed with the Reds as an amateur free agent in 2007, making his major league debut with the club in 2012.

With Gleyber Torres and Gio Urshela on the roster, along with Miguel Andújar returning from a labrum tear, Didi could be expendable. But according to WFAN’s Sweeny Murti, even though the Yankees didn’t make Gregorius a qualifying offer, the door is not closed on him donning the pinstripes next season.

Gregorius previously looked destined for a contract in the $100 million range, but a lesser than average 2019 season could change those expectations. Power numbers were there for Didi after returning from Tommy John surgery, slugging 16 homers in 82 games, but his .238 batting average with a .276 OPB was much lower than recent years.

Gregorius began his Yankees career in 2016 with the daunting task of replacing future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter. The now 29-year old shortstop helped the Yankees to the playoffs three times, hitting big homeruns while receiving MVP votes in 2017 and 2018.
