Jets coach Todd Bowles

Reports: Bowles Drawing Interest Around NFL As Assistant Coach

January 08, 2019 - 2:13 pm

Todd Bowles might not be waiting long for his next NFL gig. Teams around the league are reportedly meeting with the former Jets head coach and sending out feelers about his availability.

The Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have emerged as interested parties.

NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo reported that Bowles has met with the Redskins, though no specific role was brought up during discussions.

"Former Jets coach Todd Bowles met with the Redskins earlier this week, sources say. No specific role was discussed, I’m told. It was more about touching base and seeing where things stood for both sides. As @RapSheet has noted, Bowles is in play in Tampa for Arians’ DC," Garafolo tweeted.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Bowles could be a top candidate to work under Bruce Arians if he is hired as the Bucs' next head coach. Rapoport previously reported that the Bucs are set to offer Arians the job, according to informed sources.

"Former Jets coach Todd Bowles is the top choice to join Bruce Arians in Tampa. Would make for quite a staff," Rapoport tweeted.

Prior to becoming the Jets' head coach in 2015, Bowles spent two seasons on Arians' staff as a defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals.

Bowles was fired Dec. 30 after he finished the 2018 season with a 4-12 record.
