According to police sources speaking to the New York Daily News, the incident occurred in Kurucs’ Brooklyn residence on June 27. He was released without bail Tuesday after a judge issued an order of protection and told Kurucs to stay away from the alleged victim, the Daily News reported.

Kurucs allegedly yelled “I am going to kill myself” before attacking the woman, whom he was dating at the time. According to the report, the 21-year-old is accused of choking and slapping her before throwing her down on a bed.

The woman suffered injuries to her ribs and face during the altercation, according to the prosecution during Kurucs' arraignment.

Kurucs was taken by the Nets in the second round of the 2018 NBA draft. The Latvian native is preparing to enter his second year with the team after a relatively successful first campaign in Brooklyn.

The Nets released a statement to Stefan Bondy of the Daily News later on Tuesday.

"After learning of the allegations against Rodions Kurucs, we notified and are assisting the League Office as they begin the process of gathering more information. The Nets organization takes allegations of this nature with extreme seriousness. While the investigation is underway and as we continue to learn more, we will refrain from commenting further.”

Kurucs will be back in court on October 21.
