Rookie first baseman Pete Alonso and utilityman Jeff McNeil were chosen as National League reserves Sunday. Reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom also was selected for the Mets.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman was named to the American League All-Star team on July 9 in Cleveland, joining catcher Gary Sanchez and second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who were named starters Thursday. No Mets were voted in as starters.

Alonso ranks second in the majors with 28 home runs, just one behind Milwaukee's Christian Yelich. The 24-year-old is batting .278 with 62 RBIs and a 1.001 OPS. Alonso has accepted an invitation to participate in the Home Run Derby the night before the All-Star Game

McNeil, who was called up in June 2018, is second in the National League with a .344 batting average, only behind the Dodgers' Cody Bellinger. McNeil has six homers and 32 RBIs.

DeGrom is 4-7 this season with a 3.32 ERA. This is his third All-Star selection.

Chapman, headed to his sixth All-Star Game, leads the American League with 23 saves. He has a 1.36 ERA.
