After just eight days back with the Mets, Ruben Tejada has been designated for assignment. The ex-Met that made his return last week had no hits in nine at bats.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Chris Flexen has been called up from triple-A Syracuse to take Tejada's spot.

Jeff McNeil will be playing in a rehab game Thursday night in Syracuse. His return looming was likely another reason for getting rid of Tejada.

Joe Panik has also been terrific for the Mets since they added him a few weeks ago. Considering Tejada was not helping this team offensively and he's not a defensive wizard, there isn't a need to keep him on the roster. Luis Guillorme has also come up with a few timely hits to keep him on the roster.

What has been more amazing is that outfielder Aaron Altherr and his .085 batting average is still on the roster. With Juan Lagares hitting well of late, Altherr won't be seeing any playing time, besides the occassional pinch-hit opportunity. Once Brandon Nimmo is back with the team, likely at the beginning of September, Altherr will likely be gone.
