Report: Giants To Work Out Former Raiders QB McGloin

September 03, 2018 - 2:38 pm

The Giants made it clear Sunday they didn't see a future with quarterback Davis Webb, but they don't seem entirely set on both of the players currently backing up Eli Manning, either.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Giants will work out veteran quarterback Matt McGloin on Tuesday.

After waiving Webb, the Giants are left with Manning, rookie Kyle Lauletta and journeyman Alex Tanney on their roster.

Coach Pat Shurmur would not say Monday who would be called upon if Manning had to be replaced.

The Giants coach did say he is "very comfortable” with playing Lauletta, a fourth-round pick out of Richmond in April's draft, right away, if needed.

Shurmur also said he likes having a veteran among his backup QBs. Tanney, 30, is playing for his seventh team but has only seen action in one game, in 2015 with the Tennessee Titans.

In four seasons with the Oakland Raiders (2013-16), McGloin played in 13 games, starting seven. He spent last season with the Houston Texans but did not play in any games. The 28-year-old was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
