Mats Zuccarello made his long awaited return to Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Zuccarello, a member of the Minnesota Wild, skated in front of the Rangers faithful for the first time since he was traded to Dallas in February. He was met with an ovation, adoring signs and the classic "Zuuuc" chant he's heard for the first nine years of his NHL career. Zuccarello was one of the last one to leave the ice and acknowledged the crowd as warm-ups concluded.

During the first period, the Rangers gave the fan-favorite a proper tribute filled with heart-warming and memorable moments during his time with the Blueshirts.

He saluted the crowd from behind the bench in response to the boisterous chants of  "Zuuuc". That wasn't enough. Zuccarello earned an ovation from everyone inside MSG.

The 32-year-old skated onto the ice, tapped his heart and gave a final wave to the crowd.

New York traded Zuccarello to the Stars ahead of the 2019 trade deadline. He signed five-year, $30 million contract with Minnesota as the free agency period began on July 1. He's tallied 11 points in 19 games for Minnesota.
