Knicks Fan Auctions Off Fanhood For $3,500

Evan Perlmutter Will Root For Lakers This Season

A former Knicks fan has sold his loyalty for $3,500.

Evan Perlmutter, a self-described "infuriated" lifelong Knicks fan, put his fanhood up for auction on eBay earlier this month. James Riedel, 23, was the high bidder. Reidel told Bleacher Report that he thought the experience would help create good content for his YouTube channel.

Perlmutter, who grew up on Long Island and used to work in sales for Madison Square Garden, has agreed to bet $500 on the Lakers to surpass their over/under win total, purchase NBA League Pass so he can watch LeBron James and company, buy two different jerseys of players on his new favorite team and attend one home and one road Lakers game. Riedel said he plans on attending Lakers games with Perlmutter.

Perlmutter, 33, also promised to "throw out my awesome Knicks trash can" and "burn no less than three articles of Knicks memorabilia."

"I'm off to one of the most decorated (franchises) in all of sports, sunny winters, with a destination free agents actually want to go to, Hollywood ... and it's time to Strive For Greatness," Perlmutter told ESPN in an email.

The Knicks responded by issuing a statement: "We're sure our millions of loyal Knicks fans won't mind losing this attention-grabbing gentleman. We remain focused on the upcoming season -- with a hard-working team that is proud to represent New York and its dedicated fans."

The Knicks have won just one playoff series in the past 18 years and have lost 50 or more games four years running. Their last NBA title came in 1973.

New York has a new head coach in David Fizdale, but with star power forward Kristaps Porzingis expected to miss a large chunk, if not all, of the season, they are considered long shots for the playoffs again.
