Just when everything seemed to be stable with the Jets, they will now restructure their front office ahead of the new season.

The team announced Wednesday that general manager Mike Maccagnan has been fired. Maccagnan had reportedly been on the hot seat, but it didn’t seem likely that he would be fired just after leading the Jets through the draft and through a busy period of free agency.

WFAN's Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts were live on the air when they heard the shocking news, which Benigno immediately greeted with a mixture of confusion and anger.

“Here we go again,” said Benigno. “Do I need this today? This franchise, they’re a disaster. How in the world did you hire Adam Gase? Didn’t Maccagnan hire him? Didn’t Maccagnan hire this guy, or what? What the hell is going on here?”

Maccagnan had been the Jets’ general manager since January 2015. After coach Todd Bowles was fired in December, Maccagnan presided over a joint coaching search with Chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson that resulted in the hiring of Gase.

Gase, who has been named interim GM, said just last week that he was “pissed off” about rumors of a rift between him and Maccagnan, but those rumors were apparently true.

Joe and Evan then turned their attention to Johnson, and the team’s ownership in general, which has long been seen as incompetent.

"This is unbelievable," Benigno said. "The Jets are a disgrace. Christopher Johnson, you're a disgrace as an owner. You are a disgrace as an owner. I'm sorry, a disgrace. You make Jim Dolan and the Wilpons look like they're Robert Kraft as an owner, like the Rooneys, like the Yankees. It's a joke.

"What the hell kind of ownership is this?" he added. "You hire this guy that has won nothing, nothing! And then you allow him to come here and win a power struggle against the sitting GM?"

"If they would have just fired Maccagnan when they fired Todd Bowles, we all would've understood it," Roberts said. "Instead, you do this. You hire this coach, who, by the way, was a failure in Miami."
