It's that time of year. The start of the NBA season is right around the corner and there's excitement abound about LeBron James' new start in Los Angeles, the Celtics' potentially challenging the Warriors, and of course, the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The drama in Minnesota surrounding the Jimmy Butler situation continued on Thursday as Butler reportedly held a players-only meeting after practice was cancelled. The news was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

All this came after Butler returned to the team yesterday and took part in an explosive and emotional practice session. During that session Butler reportedly yelled at management, the coaching staff, and other Timberwolves players. Butler has always had a fiery persona, but yesterday's outburst apparently left other members of the team and organization speechless, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Butler requested a trade when he sat down with head coach Tom Thibodeau in September. That trade hasn't happened yet, and negotiations with Miami and Houston have reportedly disintegrated again.

Despite reports of today's players-only meeting, Timberwolves guard Jeff Teague and coach John Lucas III took to Twitter to deny that such a conference had happened.

2017-2018 was Butler's first year in Minnesota after he was traded from the Chicago Bulls last summer. With Butler healthy the T-Wolves were poised to finish the season as the fourth seed in the Western Conference, but with Butler out injured the team struggled and eventually finished in eighth. They were ultimately beaten in five games by the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs.
