Jeurys Familia has struggled heavily for the Mets this season, and now he’s set for another spell on the sidelines because of an injury.

On Tuesday, the Mets placed the reliever on the 10-day injured list due to soreness associated with a Bennett lesion in his right shoulder. This is the same injury that landed Familia on the same injured list back in May.

Two pitchers, Stephen Nogosek and Daniel Zamora, were called up from Triple-A in response to Familia’s injury. Drew Gagnon was also sent down to Syracuse. Nogosek is 24-years-old and has never appeared in a big league game.

Familia's last two outings have not gone well. He surrendered three runs, while only managing to get one out, against the Braves on Monday night. The Mets lost that game 12-3. On Friday, Familia gave up the lead by allowing four runs in one inning of work against the Cardinals. The Mets lost that game 9-5.

Bullpen struggles from Mickey Callaway's team have some calling for a trade to add some reliever reinforcement.

Familia finding his form once again would be as good as a new acquisition. He has shown himself to be a capable reliever in the past, but not at any point this season. The 31-year-old was traded to the Athletics in the middle of last season. He then signed back with New York in the offseason on a three-year deal.

The Mets are in danger of losing touch with the teams chasing the playoffs in the National League. New York has fallen to 5.5 games out of the second wild card spot.
