The Jets have added free agents on offense, and now they’re adding to their defense too.

According to WFAN Jets insider Brian Costello, the team has agreed to a deal with former Ravens linebacker Patrick Onwuasor. Onwuasor will help boost a linebacking group that struggled last year after the injuries to CJ Mosley.

To this point, Onwuasor had spent his entire NFL career with the Ravens. Baltimore signed the Portland State standout as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Onwuasor was set to be a starting interior linebacker for Jim Harbaugh’s team after the departure of Mosley to New York, but he was ultimately benched after a few games.

Onwuasor’s salary and contract length has yet to be reported, but it’s likely that he is another relatively cheap piece being added by Joe Douglas. The Jets have quite a few options at linebacker now with Mosley returning and with the recent re-signings of Neville Hewitt and James Burgess.

Mosley and Onwuasor both played well when they were on the field together in Baltimore. When Mosley left, Onwuasor struggled. Adam Gase and company will be hoping that they can reestablish that chemistry on defense with the Jets.

In 2019, Onwuasor had three sacks and 64 total tackles. He has 9.5 total sacks in his career thus far.
