Jets Release Injured WR Terrelle Pryor

October 20, 2018 - 5:28 pm

The Jets released Terrelle Pryor on Saturday, although they're reportedly interested in bringing back the veteran wide receiver at some point.

Pryor has a groin tear that is expected to sideline him about two weeks, and the Jets couldn't afford to carry another injured receiver on their roster. The move comes after Pryor enjoyed one of his best games of the season last week -- six catches, 57 yards and a touchdown in a 42-34 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

For the season, Pryor has 14 receptions for 235 yards and two TDs.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on the Jets' interest in re-signing Pryor but added that other teams could also vie for his services.

The Jets signed Pryor as a free agent in March. A converted quarterback, he caught 77 passes for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns with the Cleveland Browns in 2016. But after signing a one-year, $8 million deal with the Washington Redskins last year, Pryor, hampered by injuries, had just 20 receptions for 240 yards with a touchdown.

The Jets announced they've promoted wide receiver Deontay Burnett from their practice squad. An undrafted rookie, Burnett was one of Jets quarterback Sam Darnold's favorite targets when both played for USC. The 6-foot, 186-pound Burnett was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans, leading the team in the preseason with 11 catches.

The Jets (3-3), who host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, are also without wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, who is expected to miss three to four weeks with a high ankle sprain.
