Tight end Chris Herndon's return to the Jets has been delayed.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Herndon, who is set to return from suspension, suffered a hamstring injury while he worked out on his own last week. Jets head coach Adam Gase revealed the prognosis, indicating Herndon sustained the injury as he ran a route and would be kept out of practice on Wednesday.

"We'll see how that goes the rest of the week," Gase told reporters, via SNY. " ... Like it's legit. It's a legit hamstring (injury)."

Gase didn't confirm if Herndon would miss Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys. Gase, however, says the injury is "severe enough" to keep him out of practice and the team will see if they "can get him back toward the end of the week."

Multiple reports have suggested Herndon will miss the upcoming game.

Herndon had been sidelined through the first five weeks of the season as he served his four-game suspension for violating the league's policy and program on substances of abuse. The suspension is a result of a January incident where Herndon pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated. He received the four-game punishment, instead of the normal two games, because a woman on the scene claimed bodily harm due to the crash, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport

The 23-year-old thrived in his first season with New York, last year. Herndon finished second on the team in receiving, totaling 502 yards with four touchdowns.

While Herndon's status remains up in the air, linebacker CJ Mosley doesn't appear close to rejoining his team. Gase wasn't optimistic about the veteran linebacker being on the field by the time Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys enter MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Mosley is "doubtful at best," according to Gase. He's yet to practice since suffering a groin injury during the Jets' Week 1 loss to Buffalo. He took the Jets' defense by storm prior to his injury, recording a pick-six and a fumble recovery in his debut. Gase ruled Mosley out of practice on Wednesday, as well.
