Ellsbury Undergoes Hip Surgery, Out For Rest Of Season

Jacoby Ellsbury's season is officially over.

The Yankees announced Tuesday that the outfielder has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left hip to repair a torn labrum. The expected recovery time is about six months.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan and went as expected, the team said.

Ellsbury has not played at all this season. In addition to the hip injury, Ellsbury hurt his oblique in training camp and also dealt with a heel issue and the flu this season.

Lsat season, Ellsbury hit .264 with seven homers and 39 RBIs.

The 34-year-old has two more years left on the seven-year, $153 million contract he signed in December 2013.
