Sunday's game represents a must-win for the Giants if they truly have any aspirations of playing postseason football. They'll be taking on another 0-2 team in the Houston Texans, but they will likely have to play without one of their best pass rushers for a third straight week.

Olivier Vernon is still suffering from a high-ankle sprain and, according to the New York Post, he won't be healthy enough to go on Sunday.

Cornerback Eli Apple also did not participate in Giants' practice on Thursday. Apple's status is still uncertain, but the fact that he did not practice isn't a good sign for his availability this weekend.

Vernon suffered the sprain during practice late last month. Pat Shurmur was holding out hope that Vernon would be able to make it back in time for the season opener, calling the 27-year-old a "fast healer," but the linebacker will now miss his third game of the season.

Lorenzo Carter and Conor Barwin will once again deputize for Vernon on the Giants' defense, but Barwin himself won't be 100% after he was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.

The Giants take on the Texans in Houston on Sunday afternoon.
