CC Sabathia may be a future Hall of Fame pitcher, but he still slugged three home runs in his 19-year MLB career. Now, he looks like he could hit a few more.

The retired Yankees pitcher has apparently slimmed down and beefed up, exchanging his fat for muscle, in a photo that has been circulating around the Internet.

It is such a striking pic that it has even left some wondering if this is just a photoshop going around, but Sabathia’s R2C2 podcast co-host, Ryan Ruocco, squashed those rumors and confirmed it is indeed Sabathia.

“Not Photoshopped. The big fella has been getting after it in quarantine!” he tweeted.

The 39-year-old, who is also now sporting a customary post-Yankees beard, has always been conscious about his weight in recent years, which had become a focus of his playing career.

Baseball Reference lists him at 6-foot-6, 300 pounds, but throughout his tenure with the Yankees, Sabathia’s weight fluctuated as he made an effort to protect his long-term health, and even arrived to spring training in 2014 at a reported 275 pounds.

Sabathia entered the 2019 season knowing it would be his last, going 5-8 with a 4.95 ERA in 107.1 innings pitched. His final appearance was in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Houston Astros when he tore his rotator cuff, labrum and bicep and still tried to pitch through it.

Sabathia had surgery following the season, but clearly he appears to have fully recovered as he now looks like he could step into the batter's box, or even the Octagon.
