This week has been filled with leagues, teams and athletes speaking out against systemic racism in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

But not every team has spoken up.

The New York Giants are among a handful of sports teams that had not made any sort of statement as of Tuesday afternoon, but one former Giant says that does not matter.

Antrel Rolle, who joined WFAN’s “Moose & Maggie” on Tuesday said statements from teams do not mean anything at this point.

“I’ll be 100 percent honest with you: I could honestly care less,” Rolle said about teams issuing statements. “I don’t think that could do anything at all. Obviously, these NFL teams and NFL communities have absolutely nothing at all to do what’s happening in the every day streets of our lives. … Teams can issues statements or not issue statements. It’s really irrelevant at this point.”

Rolle, 37, has been out of the NFL since 2015 but has always been outspoken on and off the field in his 11-year career.

He cited that what needs to happen is simple: change.

“I think we’ve been heard for numerous years, but there hasn’t been any action behind our voices. And that’s the problem,” he said. “… We need to see change with those guys wearing badges and honestly abusing the badge. ... If someone surrenders, allow them to surrender. You don’t need to choke them out, you don’t need to beat them up, you don’t need to mishandle them when they’re in handcuffs, let dogs attack them, shoot them when they are unarmed. You have no explanation for none of the above.”

What angers Rolle most, though, is that when these tragedies happen justice is not served.

“I think the worst thing we see is the cover up,” he added. “The incidents are one thing, the cover up is another. I think the communities are so busy worrying about the backlash they do whatever they can do to try and cover up the wrongdoing. But you can’t cover it up, because it’s already brought to the light.”
