The NFL Draft is important for every team every year, but this year’s selection process feels especially crucial for the New York Giants.

New York has two picks in the first round following a poor season and the subsequent trading of Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland. With Giants starting quarterback Eli Manning now 38-years-old, it seems likely that one of those picks will be used on a QB.

Former Ohio State star Dwayne Haskins, who visited with the Giants earlier in April, could be that QB.

On Monday, Haskins joined WFAN’s “Joe & Evan” to talk about his college career and about Thursday’s draft. Haskins was asked whether he felt the Giants wanted him after his meetings with their staff.

“Yeah I definitely do. I feel like they have interest and they like me a lot,” said Haskins. “Will they pick me at (pick) six or 17? I don’t know, but I feel like I definitely did my part with the meetings with Gettleman, Shurmur and Shula. I did my best to show that I can handle the stuff that comes with being a New York Giants quarterback, but it’s out of my control at this point.”

Haskins obviously has to watch his words before the draft and can’t become too attached to one team in particular, but he does appear hopeful about the mutual interest between himself and the Giants.

The 21-year-old was born in Highland Park, New Jersey and told “Joe & Evan” that he grew up a fan of both the Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Haskins also spoke about how he feels he will fit into the current landscape of the NFL as a quarterback who likes to stay in the pocket.

“The guys that run around every play are the guys that don’t last long. Availability is the best thing you need to be able to do. Of course, I am able to get myself out of trouble. I’m not going to run for 60 yards for a touchdown, but I’ll get you a first down … it’s more fun for me to pick a defense apart. That’s what I study film for.”

Haskins was also asked about which other great NFL quarterbacks he had been influenced by.

"The Mannings, Brady and Brees. But I also studied the game a lot. My dad's favorite quarterback was Staubach, and I watched Troy Aikman, and Warren Moon was a guy that I admired."

If the Giants do select Haskins, he'll be working with one of those Mannings soon enough.
