Giants owner John Mara previously said that "in a perfect world" Daniel Jones would stay on the team's bench all season. Jones, however, wouldn't remain on the Giants' bench during their 35-17 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Eli Manning completed 30-of-44 passes, totaling 306 yards. He even connected with tight end Evan Engram for his lone touchdown pass. But the dynamic and explosive Cowboys' offense built an insurmountable lead. The Giants trailed Dallas 35-10 entering the fourth quarter. Head coach Pat Shurmur chose to send in his rookie quarterback to relieve Manning late in the fourth quarter.

Jones came into the game for what turned out to be New York's final drive. He completed three passes, throwing one incompletion on a deep throw. The former Duke standout wasn't afraid to show off his scrambling ability, though it ended up haunting him.

The 22-year-old fumbled on a five-yard run, his lone rushing attempt, to put an end to his first and only drive. After initially being ruled down by contact, officials ruled Jones' fumbled the ball in his first taste of regular season NFL action.

Jones threw for 17 yards and finished with an 82.3 passer rating in his brief appearence. He showed a glimpse of what the Giants' future has in store. With the team starting 0-1, New York is seemingly inching closer to Jones' appearance becoming more frequent.
