Ron Darling’s name is in the news with regard to the Mets' general manager job, but the former big league pitcher/current SNY analyst is apparently not interested in the gig.  Nonetheless, Boomer and Gio talked about the Amazin's search to replace Sandy Alderson and what it takes to be successful at the job.

Speaking of qualified, Boomer mentioned his good buddy Mr. Phil Simms as someone who could handle the duties that a high-pressure GM job demands, albeit in the world of the NFL -- so not an ideal fit for the Mets. Boomer also fondly recalled Dan Marino’s brief -- very brief -- stint in the Dolphins' front office.

The guys finished things off with the Yanks, who increased their lead for the top wild-card spot to 2½ games, and if there is any justice, when the dust settles they should be able to tout that they have the AL Rookie of the Year playing third base for them.
