Aaron Boone envisions DJ LeMahieu serving the Yankees as a valuable utility infielder.

“We’re committed to having DJ be the guy that bounces around because I envision Gleyber (Torres), even if (Troy Tulowitzki) is healthy, Gleyber is still gonna get his fair share of looks at shortstop,” Boone told the New York Post.

LeMahieu signed a two-year, $24 million deal with the Yankees on Jan. 14.

“With DJ, our intention is second, third (and) maybe a little bit of first,” Boone said. “I envision him playing a lot."

Boone values LeMahieu's versatility.

“That’s assuming perfect health across the board, I still think he’s playing kind of all the time,” Boone said. “It’ll allow us (to) use the DH spot with a guy maybe against a lefty. Maybe you DH (Andujar) that day and Giancarlo (Stanton) in the outfield and play DJ there. You give a day off a week with Gleyber and (Andujar), that gives (LeMahieu) two more (days). The days are there, even if we have perfect health, and hopefully if we do, it allows us to keep guys healthier over the long haul because they are getting that day (off) a week. But it never quite works out that way.”

LeMahieu batted .276 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 2018 with the Colorado Rockies.
