Manny Machado has reportedly agreed to a record 10-year, $300 million deal with the San Diego Padres. Though the Padres are yet to confirm the deal, it would be the largest free-agent contract ever in American sports.

Now that Machado is on his way to San Diego, fans are wondering whether the Yankees put in a serious bid. It turns out that the Yankees never made a formal offer, according to James Wagner of the New York Times.

Yankees Plan To Use LeMahieu In A Variety Of Infield Positions

Machado was hosted by the Yankees on Dec. 19 and they even showed his image in pinstripes on the stadium scoreboard.

The 26-year-old recorded a career-high .905 on-base plus slugging in 2018, finishing the season with a .297 average, 37 home runs and 107 RBIs. Machado is a four-time All-Star and two-time third base Gold Glove Award winner.

This youngster clearly didn't want to see Machado in pinstripes.

Once the deal is announced, the Padres will have spent $474 million in free agency over the past two seasons to lead the majors.
