Aaron Boone has named Luis Severino as the Yankees' starter for the American League Wild-Card Game. The Yankees will host the Oakland Athletics at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.

"I think he's equipped in so many ways to handle this, and perhaps most importantly, he's equipped with amazing stuff and the ability to dominate big league hitters because he's such a talented pitcher," Boone said.

Severino finished the regular season with a 19-8 record and a 3.39 ERA in 32 appearances.

The 24-year-old right-hander enjoyed a strong first half, before enduring a rough second half. Severino was 14-2 at the All-Star break with a 2.31 ERA. He went 5-6 with a 5.57 ERA following the All-Star break.

Severino lost 8-2 to the A's on Sept. 5, surrendering five earned runs in 2 2/3 innings. He threw two wild pitches and catcher Gary Sanchez allowed two passed balls.

Boone also confirmed that Sanchez will be Severino's catcher for the Wild-Card Game.

Reliever Liam Hendriks will start for the A's. Hendriks finished the 2018 season with an 0-1 record and a 4.13 ERA in 25 appearances -- including eight games started.

The wild-card winner will advance to the American League Division Series against the Boston Red Sox, starting on Friday.
