Yoenis Cespedes has continued his rehab since being placed on the disabled list on May 16 due to a right hip flexor strain. On Wednesday afternoon, Cespedes started at first base in a rehab game with the Gulf Coast League Mets.

This was the first time that the power-hitting outfielder has played first base.

Cespedes played nine innings at first base and went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer. He did not commit an error and made eight putouts.

It's possible that Cespedes could return in time for the Subway Series as a designated hitter. The Mets and Yankees open the series at Yankee Stadium on Friday night.

Prior to the injury, the 32-year-old outfielder was batting .255 with 8 home runs and 28 RBI through 37 games.
