Mets Sign Ruben Tejada To Minor-League Deal

March 23, 2019 - 3:32 pm

The Mets have brought back a familiar face in 29-year-old infielder Ruben Tejada. He initially made his major league debut with the Mets in 2010 and remained with the club until he was released on Mar. 15, 2016.

Tejada last appeared in the majors with the Baltimore Orioles in 2017, appearing in 41 games. He is a career .251 batter. He played all of 2018 with the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk, hitting .230 with two home runs and 34 RBIs in 101 games.

With Jed Lowrie and Todd Frazier set to miss Opening Day, Jeff McNeil is in position to start the season at third base.

The Mets are expected to finalize their Opening Day roster in the coming days. Rajai Davis, Adeiny Hechavarria, Carlos Gomez, Devin Mesoraco, Ryan O’Roarke and Hector Santiago were assigned to minor-league camp on Saturday.
