Barrett Debut, Irving Return To Boston Highlight Dates

A new season is upon us for the Knicks and Nets. On Monday, the NBA released the schedules for both teams, as well as the other 28 respective teams, including a handful of notable matchups for both teams.

New York will travel to San Antonio to commence its new season, hoping to end the six-year playoff drought, on Oct. 23. RJ Barrett and the Knicks host Kemba Walker's Boston Celtics and in the team's home opener on Oct. 26. It'll be the first chance for the Madison Square Garden crowd to see the No. 3 draft pick as a member of the Knicks. 

Last week, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski revealed New York, who has played in 53 total Christmas Day games, won't be playing on Dec. 25. The Nets won't be playing on the holiday either. 

Highlights from the Knicks' schedule:

  • Former Knicks star and current Maverick Kristaps Porzingis returns to face his old team (Nov. 14)
  • Knicks face the NBA Champions in Toronto for a pre-Thanksgiving Day matchup (Nov. 27)
  • Snubbed from a Christmas Day matchup, New York heads to Brooklyn the following day (Dec. 26)
  • Barrett and his old college teammate Zion Williamson play against each other (Jan 10)
  • LeBron James and Anthony Davis play at MSG for the first time since Davis joined the Lakers (Jan 22)

The Nets announced their schedule paying homage to the NBA's "2K" franchise.

Brooklyn, who clinched a playoff berth at 42-40 last season, opens up its 2019-20 campaign Oct. 23 against Karl Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Nets fell to Minnesota in both meetings last year. 

For the newest Net Kyrie Irving, he'll make his highly anticipated return to Boston on Nov. 27. 

Highlights from the Nets' 2020 schedule:

  • The Nets visit the defending NBA Champion Toronto Raptors (Dec. 14) 
  • Host the Philadelphia 76ers on Martin Luther King Day (Jan. 20) 
  • LeBron and AD head to Brooklyn in a star-studded matchup (Jan. 23)
  • While Kevin Durant will likely still be nursing his Achilles injury, Brooklyn faces the Golden State Warriors on Feb. 5
  • Brooklyn closes out its regular season against Giannis Antetokounmpo's Bucks (April 15)
