October 16, 2018 - 2:20 pm

Knicks coach David Fizdale announced the team’s starting lineup for Wednesday’s season opener against the Atlanta Hawks.

Trey Burke will open the season as starting point guard, Tim Hardaway Jr. will start at shooting guard, Frank Ntilikina will line up at small forward, while Lance Thomas is slotted at power forward with Enes Kanter rounding out the starting five at center.

Burke appeared in 36 games for the Knicks last season, averaging 12.8 points per game and 4.7 assists per game. He averaged 21.8 minutes per game.

Rookie Kevin Knox will come off the bench.

Burke, Ntilikina, Emmanuel Mudiay and Ron Baker figured into the preseason competition for starting point guard.

Mudiay may miss the season opener after suffering a sprained ankle during Sunday’s practice. Courney Lee (neck) is also expected to be unavailable. Star big man Kristaps Porzingis is currently rehabbing from ACL surgery.

Fizdale will look to improve on the Knicks’ 29-53 record In Jeff Hornacek’s final season at The Garden.

The Hawks finished 24-58 last season. Atlanta brought Lloyd Pierce as new head coach, acquired point guard Jeremy Lin from the Nets and signed veteran swingman Vince Carter.
