"And the news that has been clear for weeks: The Jets are expected to fire coach Todd Bowles following the 2018 season," Rapoport tweeted.

Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell are among candidates to replace Bowles, according to Rapoport's sources.

McCarthy was released by the Packers after 13 seasons as head coach, following a 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 2.

Jim Harbaugh, Josh McDaniels, Lincoln Riley, Eric Bieniemy and Bruce Arians could also be in the running to succeed Bowles.

The 4-11 Jets finish the season in Foxborough on Sunday against the rival New England Patriots.

Rapoport also reported that general manager Mike Maccagnan is believed to be safe.

Bowles has gone 24-39 since being named head coach of the Jets in 2015. He led Gang Green to a 10-6 record in his first season in charge, though the Jets did not qualify for the playoffs.

Two consecutive 5-11 seasons followed.

The Jets last appeared in the playoffs under Rex Ryan in 2010.
