Mike Francesa interview Pat Shurmur from Giants training camp on July 27, 2018

Giants head coach Pat Shurmur joined "Mike's On" to discuss Sunday's 27-22 victory over the Houston Texans.

"It was a good team win," Shurmur said. "I really felt good for our players, I felt good for our ownership, I felt good for our fans. That feeling you get when you win a game, it was good to get the first one."

Eli Manning completed 25 of 29 passes for 297 yards and threw two touchdowns.

"I think that was a really, really good performance," Shurmur said. "When you complete the ball at that high percentage -- and this is truly the way I'd like to be able to play offense. I think nine different guys caught balls."

Saquon Barkley rushed for 82 yards on 17 carries and recorded one rushing touchdown.

"His competitive spirit during the game is unbelievable," Shurmur said. "Everybody can watch what he does when he's playing. That's really, really what I think makes him rare. He's out there and he wants it."

A strong defensive effort was a big factor in Sunday's win. The Giants held Houston to 59 rushing yards.

Next week's matchup will be against a high-powered New Orleans Saints offense led by Drew Brees.

"I think when you talk about them offensively, they've got five offensive linemen, they appear to be a gritty bunch that gets the job done and gives Drew just enough time. They dial it up. They're good that way."

The Giants will need to play smart on both sides of the ball to come away with a win against the Saints on Sunday.
