The National Football League is officially back.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Thursday night’s opening game between the Packers and the Bears might have been a 10-3 stinker, but football has returned, and better contests should be on the near horizon. The start of a new NFL season also means it’s time for an annual tradition at WFAN: Mike Francesa’s over/unders.

Possibly to the surprise of some, Francesa picked the Giants as one of his overs for the new campaign.

“So, three overs. Saints over 10.5 (wins). Chiefs over 10.5. Giants over 6,” said Francesa. “Giants are even, Chiefs are +110, and Saints are +142.”

Both the Saints and Chiefs had a lot of success last year, as both teams lost in their respective conference championship games. Meanwhile, the Giants were 5-11. They recovered a little bit after a horrid start to the season, but they were still a bad team. Francesa expects them to bounce back at least a bit.

The same can not be said for the Colts, who are still reeling after franchise QB Andrew Luck retired just days before the new season was set to begin. Francesa has Indianapolis as one of his unders.

“Three unders: Colts under 7.5, my theory was that you’d have to have eight (teams) to beat you, and the one real fallback for Jacoby (Brissett) is how much (Andrew) Luck dominated the division, and now the division is very hard … so under 7.5 for the Colts, -105. Dolphins under 4.5. They’re tanking for Tua (Tagovailoa). I think they’ll be lucky to win three games. They’re +110. And the Cards under 5, +120.”

Francesa added that his pessimism about the Cardinals stems from their head coach, Kliff Kingsbury.

“Everyone’s talking about the coach and (Kyler) Murray … the problems that guys like Kingsbury have in the NFL are the same problems that Spurrier had … They understand the passing game … they think they can run it in the NFL but they forget one thing: in the NFL you must begin your passing game with protection.”
