Mets Trade Cabrera To Phillies For Minor League Reliever

The Mets on Friday traded veteran infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league relief pitcher Franklyn Kilome.

New York signed Cabrera as a free agent before the 2016 season, and he became one of their most dependable hitters. 

This season, Cabrera leads the Mets in batting average (.277), home runs (18) and RBIs (58). A shortstop for much of his career, Cabrera also saw time at second and third bases last season and has played almost exclusively at second base this season.

The 32-year-old infielder is in the final year of his contract.

Kilome was the 10th-ranked prospect in the Phillies' farm system, according to The 23-year-old right-hander was 4-6 with a 4.24 ERA in 19 appearances with the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils this season.

The Phillies have been locked in a tight battle with the Braves for the NL East lead all season. Entering Friday night's games, Philadelphia has a 2 1/2-game lead.

MLB's non-waiver trade deadline is Tuesday.
