The Mets announced Friday they've signed their first-round draft pick, Jarred Kelenic, an outfielder from Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Earlier this month, the Mets selected Kelenic with the sixth overall pick in the MLB draft.

Kelenic attended Waukesha West High School and will start his professional career with the Mets' Gulf Coast League affiliate in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Kelenic’s contract is valued at $5.25 million, according to

The 18-year-old was ranked as the sixth-best prospect in the draft by ESPN's Keith Law.

“Kelenic is the one prep position player who separated himself from the pack over the past 10 months ... showing a broad mix of tools and several plus, including power, speed and arm strength,” Law wrote.

Kelenic was the first high school player taken in this year’s draft.
