It hasn't even hit March yet and in what seems like an annual occurrence, a new Met has been hit with an injury bug. Luckily, it doesn't appear too serious...yet. Mets manager Mickey Callaway revealed Wednesday that infielder Jed Lowrie is dealing with soreness in the back of his left knee.

Lowrie is expected to get an MRI to be safe on Thursday, but the Mets don't expect it to be serious. Lowrie noticed the soreness in the first few days of camp.

“Our goal is for Jed is to get him ready for the start of the season,” Callaway said.

Lowrie signed a two-year, $20 million deal in the offseason. The 34-year-old is expected to get plenty of playing time, likely at third base and maybe some first base as well as potentially second base and shortstop when Amed Rosario and Robinson Cano need a day off.

With Opening Day more than a month away, the Mets will be cautious with Lowrie. More will be known after his MRI
