Report: Mets Calling Up Infielder Jeff McNeil

July 24, 2018 - 11:51 am

The Mets are finally calling up one of their top hitting prospects, Jeff McNeil, according to Rich MacLeod of Baseball Prospectus.

The infielder, who plays mostly third base and second base will likely see time at third base for now until Todd Frazier returns and then likely move to second.

The Mets are expected to deal Asdrubal Cabrera before the trade deadline in a week, which would open a spot up for McNeil to play every day. The 26-year-old was hitting .368 with five home runs and 28 RBI in triple-A Las Vegas to go along with a .427 OBP in 31 games.

The question now will be if Peter Alonso is the next man to get the call up to Queens. The power-hitting first baseman has 24 homers in double-A and triple-A combined this season.
