Kim Jones was at the press conference when Adam Gase took accountability for linebacker Avery Williamson's injury.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Williamson suffered a torn ACL during the second quarter of the Jets preseason meeting with the Falcons on Aug. 15. The decision to keep Williamson, who is going into his sixth NFL season, playing deep into the first half is something that led many to debate if the incident could have been avoided all together. Gase said that in hindsight he wished he'd taken Williamson out of the game "a series earlier" before ultimately saying the result is "on me."

NFL Network and WFAN's Jones joined Mike Francesa on Friday to discuss the Jets and Gase taking blame for the injury.

"That was remarkable," Jones told Francesa. "I'm not sure if I'd ever seen a coach do that. Coaches have obviously expressed regret about injuries because it hurts everyone. I thought that was a pretty remarkable moment. I thought it was a really human moment."

Francesa asked Jones what specifically has she seen from the Jets that stands out the most as the regular season approaches. Jones quickly mentioned quarterback Sam Darnold's improvement since his rookie season.

"I think Sam Darnold and his progression both as a leader and as a quarterback has been incredibly impressive," Jones said. "I loved when he told us that last year he wouldn't like a play but he thought it was his job to get through it and to figure it out. Now he doesn't like a play and he says to Gase, 'I dont like that one' and Gase says 'well then we'll get rid of it.' Gase will bail on things if his players aren't responding to them well.
