Nate Hairston says his relationship with Trumaine Johnson has not been awkward since he replaced the high-priced cornerback in the Jets' starting lineup.

"Not at all, man," Hairston told WFAN's "Boomer and Gio" show Wednesday. "Trumaine, he's a professional, man. Any questions that I have he helps me out. Anything — 'How do you like playing this?' or, 'What about this call? What am I supposed to do?' — he helps me out, man. So it's never been any tension or anything like that. It's professional football. It's the business. We all go through it."

The cornerback-needy Jets acquired Hairston in a late-August trade from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.

"I believe everything happens for a reason, so it was a blessing in disguise," said Hairston, who has started the last two games. "I'm here. I'm playing a lot of football. I'm having fun. I love my teammates so far. I just want to win, and hopefully we can get that going."

The Jets are 0-3 entering their bye week. They've been plagued by injuries to linebacker C.J. Mosley and first-round rookie Quinnen Williams, quarterback Sam Darnold's mononucleosis and suspensions of three players.

Hairston said he's still hopeful the Jets can get on track.

"If you look back in the history of the NFL, like last year when I was with the Colts — we started, I think, 1-5 and won 10 straight," he said. "Like, it's doable. It can happen. So I think the coaching staff just wants us to know that it is possible. So take this week, get your legs under you, get your mind right, get ready to start stacking up some games."
