Jacob deGrom gave Mets fans something to be excited about after a nightmare 2018 season. Wednesday, deGrom officially received the National League Cy Young Award, receiving 29 of 30 first-place votes.

The newest Mets Cy Young winner joined Mike Francesa on WFAN Thursday to talk about winning the award.

"It was a personal goal of mine. The company that you're in to win something like that is truly an honor," deGrom told Francesa.

DeGrom was asked if there was frustration that settled in from his many outings getting little run support.

"You want to get wins for your team and for personal reasons. That's now hot it happened for our baseball team. Hopefully next year is different."

DeGrom talked about what was different from last year to this year and what he did different to get better."

"I found myself constantly in the video room, overthinking things," deGrom said. "I can see the frustration. Apparently I don't pitch very well when I'm angry."

The talk around the Mets all year was whether they would keep deGrom and extend him or trade him. The Cy Young winner didn't let any of the talk off the field get to his head.

"I'm good at blocking out the noise and looking at the task at hand," deGrom said. "I've been a Met since 2014 in the big leagues and that is all I know. I want to win for this team and give 100%. The other stuff is out of my control."

His agent was Brodie Van Wagenen. His former agent is now his GM. That has to be a little odd.

"Brodie was my agent and now he's the General Manager. Now we have a common goal in mind and that's winning a World Series for the New York Mets," said deGrom. "Yesterday was the day I was looking forward to. I continue to have an open line of communication with the Mets and my group and go from there and see what happens.

"I've enjoyed my time here. This is all I know. I've really enjoyed playing in New York in front of the Mets fans, who have been nothing but great to me. We play this game because we love it. Now it's looking out for my family and that's something you consider whenever it's offered. It will be interesting to see what happens. You can't help injuries last year. I really do think we will be in the position to win in 2019. I'm looking forward to that. I'm looking forward to getting things going. The way he does things, he's going to have the best interest in mind to win."

Francesa asked deGrom about his ex-agent becoming his GM and whether it was a surprise.

"He had told me that there was a possibility. It went a little faster than I expected. I am very happy for him. We'll probably be seeing each other more than we have in the past. We have a goal in mind to win a World Series for the Mets. It's a lot more fun when we're winning."
