Jets Release RB Isaiah Crowell

March 14, 2019 - 11:00 am

The arrival of Le'Veon Bell to the Jets has led to the departure of Isaiah Crowell.

The Jets announced Thursday they have released the 26-year-old running back after one season.

New York signed Crowell in free agency last year to a three-year, $12 million contract with a $4 million signing bonus. Releasing him forces the Jets to eat $2 million in dead cap space but creates an additional $3 million to spend.

Crowell, who spent the first four years of his career with the Cleveland Browns, played in 13 games last season, starting six, and rushed for 685 yards and six touchdowns and had 21 receptions for 152 yards. His season was highlighted by a team-record 219 yards rushing against the Denver Broncos on Oct. 7.

Crowell missed the season's final three games with a toe injury.

The Jets have reportedly added Bell, a three-time Pro Bowler with the Steelers, on a four-year, $52.5 million deal. Backing him up are Elijah McGuire, Trenton Cannon and De'Angelo Henderson Sr.
