John Sterling has a podcast!

"John Sterling's Pinstripes & Bright Lights" podcast brings you short baseball stories and New York Yankees lore delivered by the radio voice of the Yankees for the past 30 years.

“When I announced I was taking a few games off I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, so I decided to give a little back to the fans in a slightly different format from the broadcast," Sterling said. "I have so many stories to tell, having called every single game played by (Derek) Jeter, Mariano (Rivera) and many other Yankee legends. That’s what 'Pinstripes and Bright Lights' is all about. Great players, great stories, and our shared love of this team. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it and to participate by sending me their letters.”

In the second episode, John takes time to discuss the second-best player ever in his book, Willie Mays. (Babe Ruth is tops, for obvious reasons.) After giving the Bambino his due, John shares a classic Mays story and gives a first-hand account of seeing the "Say Hey Kid" play ball.

John opens up each episode with a fan letter. (Send letters to This week's letter reminisces on Yankees slugger Paul O'Neill and reveals the unlikely origin of John's iconic home run call, "It is high! It is far! It is gone!"

You can listen and subscribe to "Pinstripes & Bright Lights" on RADIO.COM, the RADIO.COM app, iTunes and other places where podcasts are found.
