Didi Gregorius Has Torn Cartilage In His Wrist

Could Miss Rest Of Season

September 23, 2018 - 4:58 pm

The Yankees clinched a wild-card spot on Saturday, but suffered some tough injury news on Sunday. Aaron Boone told reporters Sunday that Didi Gregorius tore cartilage in his right wrist on his headfirst slide into home yesterday when he scored the game-winning run.

The shortstop received a cortisone injection, but the Yankees are unsure of the timetable for a return. There is a chance that he could miss the rest of the season. Boone said Sunday that they will know more in the next few days.

If Gregorius misses extended time, the Yankees would likely move Gleyber Torres to shortstop and play Neil Walker at second. They could also play Adeiny Hechavarria at short.

Gregorius is hitting .268 with 27 home runs and 86 RBI. The Yankees are 10 days away from their AL wild-card game against the Athletics.
