Did Menendez Brothers Make Cameo In A Mark Jackson Basketball Card?

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The value of a Mark Jackson basketball card is suddenly soaring because of who's in the background.

The 1990-91 Hoops card shows two men sitting courtside who resemble convicted murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez.

A Twitter user, John Rosenberger, brought the card to attention Friday. He said he learned about it from Reddit. His tweet has been retweed more than 10,000 times.

"Reddit is mostly bad but the other day I learned on that website that the Menendez Brothers are in the background of this basketball card and that logistically this would be between when they killed their parents and when they were arrested and I cannot stop thinking about it," Rosenberger wrote.

The Action Network's Darren Rovell noted in a tweet of his own that the timeline "checks out."

"Menendez murder happened Aug. 20, 1989," Rovell wrote. "Brothers were apprehended March 1990. Photo was taken at MSG in 1989-90 season and set came out before 1990-91 season.”

The card, which Rovell said was worth 15 to 20 cents last week, was selling for nearly $30 on eBay on Monday.

The Menendez brothers were convicted in 1996 of the 1989 shooting deaths of their parents inside their Beverly Hills, California, home. They were sentenced to life in prison without parole.

One of the brothers appears to be wearing a Knicks hat in the photo. The brothers lived in New Jersey before their family moved to California in the 1980s.

Jackson played 17 seasons in the NBA, parts of seven coming with the Knicks. He coached the Golden State Warriors from 2011-14 and now serves as an NBA commentator of ESPN.
