Could Yankees Still Be In Mix For Harper?

December 12, 2018 - 4:17 pm

LAS VEGAS (WFAN) - Speaking at the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas, agent Scott Boras told the media that he has not heard from the Yankees that they are out of the mix for Bryce Harper.

Boras would not speak definitively, but did seem to hint that New York could still be interested in the superstar free agent.

Earlier this week, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters that outfield is not a current need, indicating that New York would not be participating in the Harper sweepstakes.

"At no time at all- all winter- did I say I'm looking for an outfielder," Cashman said at the beginning of this week's meetings in Las Vegas. "So the Harper stuff- I'm surprised you're still asking."

The 26-year-old former NL MVP is expected to sign the richest contract in MLB history, a deal that should top Giancarlo Stanton's 13-year, $325 million pact he signed with the Marlins prior to the 2015 season.

Harper hit .249/.393/.496 with 34 home runs and 100 RBI in 159 games this past season, earning him his sixth trip to the MLB All-Star Game.
