Report: CJ Mosley Expected To Sign With Jets

The Jets' linebacking corps got better overnight -- literally.

Early Tuesday morning, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that four-time Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley is expected to sign with the Jets.

Mosley's five-year deal is worth $85 million and includes $51 million guaranteed, Rapoport reported. His $17 million average annual salary is now the highest among inside linebackers, significantly topping the $13.5 million Kwon Alexander agreed to with the 49ers on Monday.

Mosley, 26, reportedly wanted to return to play for the Baltimore Ravens, but the Jets' offer was apparently too good to pass up.

The 6-foot-2, 241-pound middle linebacker was the 17th overall pick by the Ravens in the 2014 draft out of Alabama. In five seasons in Baltimore, he had 597 tackles, 8 1/2 sacks and nine interceptions. Last year, he had 105 tackles, an interception and a half sack.

For a while, it looked like the Jets had also landed another four-time Pro Bowl linebacker, Anthony Barr, but he reportedly backed out of the deal and will remain with the Minnesota Vikings.

In 2018, the Jets had the NFL's 25th-ranked defense and gave up the fourth-most points in the NFL.

The Jets, who entered free agency with more than $82 million to spend under the salary cap, have been busy since the NFL's legal tampering period began Monday. They've also agreed to terms with former Redskins wide receiver Jamison Crowder and former Bears wide receiver Josh Bellamy and re-signed cornerback Darryl Roberts.
